Chamise Boat-In Picnic Area

Warm air drifts across the Chamise-covered hillsides. The lake lies still while nighttime fisherman relax at its edges. A muffled sound of folksy country music or radio with Spanish futbol play-by-play fills the empty spaces between the wind gusts.
I lie with white sand beneath my sleeping mat, looking up at the stars and to my side at the moonlit landscape.
I feel welcomed by the familiar landscape of Silverwood Lake. I feel at peace in its calm.
It makes me hopeful for the next couple of days, as I ascend into Big Bear. It's the area where I was first introduced to the mountains, where I saw it snow for the first time, where I went to girl scout or church camps. More peace and nostalgia to come.
